My sweet little twins are one year old today! My last babies are no longer babies. They've gone from this:
to this:
And while I can't say that it's been a "fast" year or an "easy" year... it's certainly been a memorable one! On this day last year, I was 34 weeks pregnant. I took Chase and Siena to the pool in the morning and we had a very normal day... until suddenly that evening I went into labor (here's their birth story). I remember the shock and the fear so vividly. I definitely wasn't ready. I had no idea what would happen, and in the end having twins born early was not the experience that I expected at all. I longed to hold them and have a "normal" bonding time with them, and to know them individually. I loved them each so intensely from the start.
Now that they've been in our lives for a year, I can't imagine it any other way. They add depth to our family and they make us complete. Zoey cracks me up with her cute little laugh (I call it her "fake" laugh) and her wild hair. Lyla is so serious... and so active! Zoey loves to clap and dance. Lyla loves to get places fast and pull up on everything and explore her world. They both follow each other (crawling) around the house like they're on a mission! They call back and forth to each other like monkeys... "aaahh, ahhh, AH!" and babble "mamamama". It's funny but I have the same desire now that I had back then: to hold them, to bond with them, and to know them individually.
I have to admit that I'm maybe a little more happy than sad that the "baby" phase is over. We weaned them off of bottles and baby food a bit early and its been so nice to have some more flexibility in our schedule! We're slowly getting rid of baby stuff like bumbo chairs and exersaucers and swings. I know I shouldn't rush things. But I'm also looking forward to the next stage... the walking and talking and getting out of the house more!
It's been a fun year and I can't wait for the next one!
