The girls are walking!
In all of the mess of last week I think I've forgotten to mention that both of the girls are walking!! They've been taking steps here and there for the past month or so, and Lyla is really getting pretty good at it. Zoey is making progress. It is soooo sweet to see them taking their first steps... it just melts my heart! Here is a little video clip:

and then...
the internet, phone, and cable went out!!! Called Verizon to come fix it and they said they don't have anyone available for 2 days! Seriously?! Like I said... one of those weeks! (updating this via borrowed wi-fi from my next door neighbor!)
One of those weeks...
You might have had one of those weeks when...
-Your daughter has a UTI = crying, screaming every time she goes to the bathroom.
-You have to take her to the doctor with all 4 kids in tow.
-You have to stay with her in the bathroom and try to "catch the pee pee in the cup" for about 20 minutes while the nurses watched the other 3 kids. Poor girl, she was in so much pain and just didn't want to go! But I really didn't want her to have to get a catheter.
-You take all 4 to Publix to pick up antibiotics... in the pouring rain.
-You get to the front of Publix with a baby on each hip and no control over the other 2... only to find that there were NO double carts to be found!! I looked everywhere, and sent a bag boy out to look for one. Finally, about 10 minutes later (after everyone else in the store had walked by me with 1 child in their double cart and said, "oh you poor dear!"), he got one for me.
-You get sick on your son's first day of kindergarten. Like nauseous, aches, chills, pain- kind of sick. I rode my bike to school with him anyway... I just couldn't miss it. Then I spent the rest of the day indoors in sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt, even though it was 95 degrees outside. Except for when I went to pick him up and sat in the car line for 45 minutes. Oh car line!
-You have to call someone to come spray your house because you have roaches... everywhere!
-You have to call someone to come fix your roof because it's leaking and there are monsoons every afternoon and a hurricane coming next week!
-Your husband works late every night and is super stressed out.
-You wake up super early to get all of the kids dressed and ready so you can get 2 of them to school on time, and pick up a carpool buddy, and then maybe hit the gym... when suddenly your baby projectile vomits all over you and the floor and the rug.
-You spend all day taking care of a sick baby who is crying non-stop for 10 hours... poor little thing!
-Your other baby has mushy, leaky poo that keeps going and going and going. Diaper after diaper after diaper it never ends! And neither do the wardrobe changes!
-Your daughter (the one with the UTI) pees all over the floor.
-One baby starts splashing in the pee while your running your daughter to the bathroom.
-The other baby crawls into it too while you take the first baby to the kitchen sink.
-You discover that the vomiting baby also has the mushy, leaky, never-ending poo issue too.
That about sums up my week!!!

First days of school!
These are exciting times... TWO little munchkins in our house started school this week! Siena will be going to preschool 3 mornings a week, and Chase is going to kindergarten!!
Siena has acted a little nervous over the summer talking about preschool, but when the time came for her to strap on her new Nike's, she was ready! She was very excited to go to school with a couple of her friends, and to meet her new teachers, and eat lunch from a lunch box! She looked adorable with her little Cinderella backpack on... so grown up!
Chase has been counting down to the first day of kindergarten all. summer. long. He couldn't wait to go to the "big" school and ride his bike in the morning with all of the other kids in our neighborhood. He has to wear a uniform this year, which I think is the best idea ever. When I dropped him off this morning, he was so excited to see some of his favorite friends, run down the hall and find his classroom, and sit at his very own desk! I can't believe my baby is in elementary school already!
I interviewed the kids and made these pictures (thanks for the idea Pinterest)! Hopefully I will remember to do them every year.

Camera found!
FINALLY found my camera and guess where it was? My gym bag! So odd since I don't take my camera to the gym with me! But I was so, so relieved to find it... especially with the first day of school coming up. Here is what was on my camera...
The kids playing around with their good friends (and neighbors) Avery and Gavin:
One afternoon I couldn't find Siena and Lyla. They were being quiet... too quiet! Caught them in the bathroom making bubbles in the sink!!
Zoey and Lyla have been busy pushing toys all over the house... it's so cute how they follow each other around!
One of our last pics of Berk, with his cute grippy shoes that we bought him to help keep him from slipping on the hardwood floors.
My little rascals, climbing on top of their highchair trays!
Chase at his weekly tennis lesson. He LOVES it!
All 4... in their vintage Olympic tees! They really enjoyed cheering for "America" every day!

Berkeley "Pizza"
These last few days have been SO tough. Last Friday should've been a really happy day... Eric and I celebrated our 10th anniversary and my parents and grandfather were in town to visit. But unfortunately we weren't smiling much because we were struggling to accept that it was our dog Berkeley's last night with us.
Berkeley was a Rhodesian Ridgeback, the most beautiful breed of dog in the world (in our humble opinion)... so rare and so special. When we bought our first house in Maryland, we decided to get a puppy right away. We had our sights set on a Ridgeback but it wasn't so easy to find one in our area. We ended up "ordering" a new puppy from a breeder in Palestine, Texas. Here was the first picture we ever saw of him:
I'll never forget the day I picked him up from the airport (Eric was out of town for work) and brought him home. I'd never really had a puppy before and I was in for a rude awakening! But he was so sweet, and cute, and of course Eric fell in love with him as soon as he came home! We decided to name him "Berkeley" after Berkeley Place apartments, one of the places we lived while at Clemson. We had so many great memories there, and we made lots of fun memories with Berkeley as well.
Berk was our "baby" and our "little princess" for a few years... before the kids came along! Then he was our constant companion, snuggle buddy, and climbing toy for the kids. Sometime last year Chase and Siena decided that Berkeley needed a middle name like the rest of us and they settled on Berkeley "Pizza!"
He really was the perfect dog: he didn't bark, he was gentle and friendly, and super smart. Maybe too smart! He loved to try to get any table scraps he could manage, and he definitely enjoyed cleaning off the babies' highchairs and licking their sticky fingers! Probably his only fault was that he was so tall that he could easily take food off our plates, and it would drive the kids (and me) crazy when we walked away from the table for a second... only to return and find our meal gone! One time he ate an entire skillet full of shrimp and grits that I had just prepared!!
But we loved him dearly. I really can't believe that he's gone. He was only 8 years old, and I don't think we were in any way prepared to have him leave us soon. We recently found out that he had bone cancer in one of his back legs and was in a lot of pain, and then last Friday he slipped and fell (while trying to clean off the twins' highchairs of course!) and injured one of his front legs, so he could no longer stand. It was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do, saying goodbye to him. While we know it was for the best, we still don't like it. We will miss him every day!!!

Minor crisis
Sooooo, I can't find my camera! It's been over a week now and I'm starting to panic a bit. That's the reason I haven't posted on the blog lately... no pictures to share. :(
Hoping to find it soon. Otherwise I guess I will have to resort to using pics from the iphone.

Sometimes...
Sometimes when you have like a bazillion kids, you just have to get away for the weekend. You hop in the car with your friends and drive oh, say about 45 minutes away (so fortunate that we live so close to paradise!)
drink a few pina coladas
sit on the beach and read a book or two (without any children crying or needing their diaper changed)
lay in a hammock and maybe drink some wine
get all dressed up
eat dinner overlooking the water
and just have a little fun!
These girls have been my lifeline over the last 5 years. Two of them were the very first people I met here in Tampa, and at the time we all had just 1 baby, all of them about 3 months old. Since then we have added in friends and lots of kids... 16 total!! We've been through everything together... pregnancy, breastfeeding, sleepless nights, screaming babies, toddler temper tantrums, and of course all of the fun stuff too! I don't know how I would have survived without them! So it was so nice to be able to get away for 2 nights, and hang out and just be US, instead of "moms!"
